Fourteen years ago, the Meridee Winters School of Music had its first rock guitar student perform his self-composed, hard rock piece, Pain.  Since then, we have taught hundreds of guitar and bass students throughout the years.  As this part of the school has grown, we realize it’s time to give the program its own identity.  It’s time to rock – to MRock!

MRock is the newly named branch of our school specifically geared for lessons in guitar, bass, drum and rock keyboard, as well as coaching for students who are currently in or are interested in playing in bands.  As an educator and musician who has played in and recorded with many bands over the years, Meridee’s philosophy places an emphasis on strong skills, creativity and self-expression, on breaking out of the box and being free – exactly what MRock is all about.

Your convenient in-home lessons are taught by active, professional performing musicians who play in bands both locally and nationally. Whether you are a young beginner, an imaginative songwriter or want to be in your own band – a member of our teaching team will work hard to help you explore and reach your own personal goals and dreams. Your teachers will often energize your lesson by accompanying you on different instruments: electric or acoustic guitar, bass, voice, keyboards, drums and more. This will make lessons more playful, musical and alive.

Whatever your level, you have a lot of choice in the songs and style of music you learn.  Your teachers will work hard to make the experience of learning music energizing in a way that is relevant and memorable to you.

Do you play in a band - or want to? Your lessons can also work in conjunction with, prepare for, and support you playing in a band. Since our teachers all have professional band experience – we can privately coach you to become a top-notch player, while working on the skills you need - so that when you show up at rehearsal you are confident, prepared and ready to rock!  We coach students on skills such as learning songs and sets, playing by ear, learning solos, solid rhythm, song-writing and improvisation, rehearsal practices and performance prep.  Because lessons are in your home, you can privately and powerfully focus in on what you need to work on to keep advancing yourself to the next level. You can take the time to work on your problem spots or to boost up your own special talents. Your teacher can also help you with your personal equipment, strings, tuning, and effects set up.

Our students that are in bands have an extra edge because they have our expert creative training. They often are the ones that compose the original songs for their bands and move things forward creatively. As they grow, the quality of their bands originality grows too. Playing covers can only get you so far - all the great bands have great songwriters.

Rock and roll is about breaking free, speaking your mind and being different – just like MRock.  So ask yourself, "Are you ready to experience MRock?"
