BOOST YOUR Brilliance!
There is a reason many people hire tutors in the summer: it works. Combining the one-on-one attention of a tutor with the change of pace of summer camp – our projects are the best of both worlds.
A personalized one-on-one summer music project designed by you and a teacher is a powerful way to boost musicianship and enthusiasm to the next level and is the perfect complement to other camp or day camp experiences. What makes the program so effective? Unlike other music camp experiences, which are designed for groups, MW Summer Projects and lessons are custom designed by the student and teacher to focus in on exciting new ideas or on turning problems into strengths – thus creating faster progress. The programs are offered in the comfort and convenience of your own home and can be flexibly scheduled in single or non-consecutive one week blocks customized to your schedule and availability. BAND AND PRE-BAND SKILLS Do you play in a band – or wish you did? Did you know that most band skills needed are learned on your own – outside of band practice?
• Band Prep and Performance: Because lessons are in the privacy of your home, you can secretly and powerfully focus in on what you need to work on to keep advancing yourself to the next level – and the best band. Our professional performing band teachers can privately coach you to become a top-notch player - so that when you show up at rehearsal you are confident, prepared and ready to rock! We can coach you on learning songs and sets, playing by ear, learning and creating solos, solid rhythm, song-writing and improvisation, rehearsal practices, stage presence and performance prep. There is a lot to learn – you don’t have to struggle alone or in a group setting. You can take the time with your teacher to zoom in on your problem spots or to boost up your own special talents. Your teacher can also help you with your personal equipment and effects set up. • Pre-Band Prep and Performance: Never been in a band – but want to? Take the leap with an experienced one-on one coach in the low-pressure privacy of your home. Learn all of the above skills from Band Prep and Performance plus how to audition for a band, start your own band or join an existing one that is the best and most fun for you. All with the support of an understanding experienced professional performing musician. • Band Songwriting: Did you know all the great bands have great songwriters? Our band students have an extra edge because they have our expert creative training. They often are the ones that compose the original songs for their bands and move things forward creatively. As they grow, the quality of their bands originality grows too. Just playing covers can only get you so far – as being the band member who can’t write makes you more limited – and replaceable. (Check out our Songwriters Showcase Gallery for videos of songwriters.)
PORTFOLIO
Do you want to create a time capsule of your music lessons for the future? Would you like to display all of your accomplishments in a fun way to show others? Do you want to celebrate what you have accomplished and then take it further? Create an amazing custom portfolio this summer! Focus in on one topic – or cover a wide range of things that inspire you.
Portfolios have traditionally been used in the visual and performing arts as a way for an artist to showcase their accomplishments and designs. As the only school in the country we know of incorporating portfolios into the curriculum, we are excited to offer young artists the opportunity to showcase and document their work, to deepen their own learning process and most importantly to ENJOY and SHARE their unique accomplishments as they study music.
DIGITAL RECORDING
Do you want a professional recording of your music to share with others or play on your iPod? In the digital age, everyone has the ability to record music. Why not take the summer to work with an experienced teacher, in the comfort of your own home, and learn about recording. Recording in a professional studio can costs thousands of dollars and often requires booking months in advance. With the MW Recording Project you can make the same quality recording at home at a fraction of the cost. This program is limited in availability so talk to your teacher now or call the office. There are additional fees for this program.
• Computer Program Tutorial: Learn how to work that new recording software. Study all the ins and outs of how to be your own producer. • Recording Sessions: After working with your teacher to prepare a body of work, sign up for recording sessions. During the sessions you can add drums, bass, vocals or other instruments to your songs. You’ll have your own album to give to friends, post on the web or send to record companies. • Sound Effects: From guitar effects racks and pedals to keyboard/synthesizer sounds – there is a lot to choose from and program to get your own unique sound. Learn how to get the sounds effects the masters have on their professional recordings.
CREATE YOUR OWN WORKSHOP PROJECT ON ANYTHING Mix and match from all the options, or create your own unique workshop on something you are highly interested in from conducting to sound effects, anything goes! For example past topics have included: conducting, writing dance music, scoring for high school theater (Dracula), writing a waltz for a family member’s wedding and more.
REGULAR LESSONS Of course if you are on a roll and want to take regular lessons all or part of the summer you can.
LOGISTICS
Projects can be scheduled in single or non-consecutive 1-week blocks. Summer scheduling can be very flexible and customized to accommodate vacations etc. Projects can last from a single week intensive for an hour every day, to a ten-week ‘big project’ that meets for an hour each week – depending on the scope of the project, your availability and skill level. There is a minimum requirement of 6 total hours spanning one week or spread out over the entire summer. You do not have to be a student of the school to participate.
