Meridee Winters Music Bridges - the Music Program for Alternative Learning Styles
An exciting new discovery twenty years in the making, Meridee Winters’ Music Bridges trains teachers on how to use Meridee’s groundbreaking curriculum for learners of all styles – including Dyspraxia, Autism and gifted learners.
“As an occupational therapist to children, I wholeheartedly recommend my students to Meridee Winters. Her school has a fantastic program that excites and energizes children of all learning styles and the teachers are well-trained and caring. I've met them myself. Parents wonder which music programs will motivate their child. Look no longer! This is it!” -Sandy Purvis, Occupational Therapist
With her creative curriculum and original materials that incorporate concepts like stimulus variation, universal music patterns, songwriting and improvisation, Meridee Winters has seen her unique music method benefit thousands of students. Every MW lesson is custom tailored to suit a student's specific needs and goals, resulting in a fun and successful musical experience.
Meridee has spent the last twenty years constantly creating and improving her original materials. These games and activities are an essential, and likely a favorite, part of your child’s lessons. Over time, it has also become clear how well these materials and techniques translate to students with alternative learning styles – including Dyspraxia, gifted learners and Autism. With that in mind, Meridee consulted with Occupational Therapist, and owner of Handwriting INK, Sandy Purvis, to review how her curriculum worked specifically for alternative learners.
They sat down to outline this new curriculum, and Meridee was delighted by Sandy’s reaction upon reviewing the MW materials. Sandy told Meridee that her methodology was already not only well developed, but that she believed Meridee had created a "treasure" that many people were searching for.
Meridee and Sandy found that the majority of Meridee’s games directly correlate with the activities and skill sets recommended for these types of learners. Games like “Dynamico,” “Imagination Theater” and “Creative Spins” help with expression, while “How Slow Can You Go” and “Piece by Piece” help build motor planning. Other games help with emotional awareness, meta-cognition, and more. In addition, teacher techniques like "chunking" of tasks, stimulus variation, active involvement, reward and motivational systems were already well established within the MW methodology.
