About the Instructor
Our songwriting group courses will be led by trained educator and practicing folk/pop songwriter Rebecca Schwartz. With a M.A. in Music Education from Teachers College at Columbia University, a B.A. in Linguistics from Haverford College, and additional certifications in Kodály and the Modern Band Method, Rebecca brings a unique blend of academic rigor and creative flair to her teaching. Her diverse skill set includes classical and contemporary voice, piano, guitar, and songwriting. As a certified music teacher and former Americorps volunteer, Rebecca went on to become the founding music teacher at a Queens elementary school where she built a comprehensive music program for over 500 students from the ground up. Beyond teaching, Rebecca is an active folk-pop singer-songwriter and has served as a songleader for various Jewish community programs. Her summers are spent honing her craft at songwriting retreats led by folk icon Dar Williams, keeping her teaching fresh and relevant. When she's not involved musically, you might catch her running along the Schuylkill River Trail or challenging friends to a game of Bananagrams (despite always losing). Rebecca teaches piano, guitar, voice, ukulele and songwriting for the school.
Songwriters' Collective Prices and Policy
ENROLLMENT
Songwriters' Collective group classes run continuously throughout the year. Space permitting, students are welcome to join the Songwriters' Collective mid-year at any time. Students are encouraged to participate all year long, but if other scheduling obligations arise, students can un-enroll at any time, and just need to provide two weeks' notice before the next billing date.
For example: your student auditions for the school musical and lands an awesome role (yay!) but rehearsals conflict with Songwriters' Collective sessions. You can give two weeks' notice to the office before the next month's payment date to un-enroll. They can then rejoin the Songwriters' Collective after they give some show stopping performances in the school musical!
COST: The cost is billed at $50 per session, adjusted for how many sessions there are in that calendar month. (For example, if you meet on Sundays, a month with 4 Sundays is $200 and a month with 5 Sundays is $250.)
BILLING
Like our private lessons, group class tuition is charged monthly on the first of each month and will not change without notification. Payment will be automatically withdrawn from the account that you provided/authorized upon registration. If a student enrolls after the first week of the month, we will charge a one-time prorated tuition fee for that month and regular monthly payments will resume on the first of the following month.
HOLIDAYS:
School holidays are built-in days off for MW students and teachers. Tuition will be adjusted for that month when a school holiday falls on your class day.
CANCELLATIONS
Tuition is charged monthly and there is no refund for missed sessions. Your tuition payment reserves your child's seat in the program, and our student-centered lessons are planned with your child's learning in mind. If you know your child will have an extended conflict, you may wish to un-enroll and re-register at a later date.
