Our teachers

Before the first lesson even begins, we’re hard at work scouting exceptional teachers. Our hiring process is highly selective — only about five percent of applicants are invited to interview. We actively seek passionate, creative musicians and look for far more than technical skill. Our interviews focus on creativity, energy, and the ability to teach and connect. After the interview/audition, only a select few are offered positions, and all teachers receive a background check and child abuse clearance.

Next, we match our expert teachers with up-and-coming talent — the students! Upon sign up, our office team gathers as much info as they can about your young musician’s abilities, interests and goals. Great care is put into matching each and every student with one of our exceptional instructors. Here’s what it might sound like in the office while we’re scheduling: “Ooh - Jane Doe’s mom said she loves Taylor Swift, and wants to sing and play. She’d be great with Teacher A! She’s in a band, sings and is great at arranging pop songs for beginners!”

Training is a huge part of what makes the MW experience so unique. Every teacher goes through a comprehensive training program based on sound educational principles — many drawn from Meridee’s own experience as a school teacher and educational author. Through ongoing workshops and our exclusive MW Method Manual, teachers learn how to use strategies like stimulus variation and motivational tools to keep lessons engaging. They also dive into our original materials — games, books, and more — so they can create customized, effective lessons right from the start.
