Stress-Free Teacher Switch
Before the first lesson even begins, we’re hard at work scouting exceptional teachers. We personally take great care to match every teacher and student. However, if we didn’t make the perfect fit on our first try, we always want a chance to get you the perfect teacher. We have a system in place to make sure your young musicians are having great lessons with an inspiring musical mentor.
Reasons to switch:
- Trying a different personality/ teaching style
- Adding a new instrument or switching instruments
- Needing a change but can't figure out why
- Wanting something more serious OR more fun
- The teacher just isn't the right fit for your child
- Or just because you want to!
When is the best time?
Any time is the perfect time to try a switch, and the first lesson with the new teacher is free of charge. It's a stress-free chance to explore not only another instrument, style or project, but also another teacher. Let our team know you'd like to try a switch and we'll connect you with another great teacher to try.
What if it doesn't work out?
Sometimes you may not be sure, and that's completely understandable. If your first lesson with the new teacher isn't magical from the beginning, we can pivot. You can try another teacher for a lesson and then return to your previous teacher. Be sure to talk this over with our team so we can help you make the right plan.
Will switching upset my teacher?
Our teachers are all trained professionals with their own exciting and unique musical backgrounds. They have had the joy of experiencing multiple teachers throughout their own musical careers and have lived through the experience of switching teachers first hand. As any good music teacher would, they want to see your child continue their musical growth for a lifetime.

Growing Up
Janna was afraid of hurting her teacher's feelings, so she endured lessons she wasn't happy with. They loved her teacher and had great years of lessons, but now her teen wanted somebody more "chill and cool". The switch was a triple win! The teacher was able to add on a young student who was a great match for their teaching style, the more advanced jazz teacher was excited to get a more serious student that they could push further, and the family was thrilled with their student's exponential progress... so much so that they are taking 2 lessons per week and progressing at light speed!

New Instruments
Rachel felt like her child’s piano lessons weren't progressing as well as they could be. Her child liked lessons, but could be more engaged. They were planning to continue lessons, but realized they needed something different to keep things fresh. She talked to the Meridee Winters team and decided to switch to a teacher that also teaches guitar and loves to incorporate games into lessons. Now her child is not only loving a new instrument, but also enjoying their piano lessons much more. Why didn’t she ask sooner? She was afraid to ask because she didn't want to hurt the teacher's feelings or get them in trouble!
Our teachers will not be "in trouble" just because they weren't a perfect fit for one child. We maintain a vast, well-trained staff for this exact reason!
Improving Communication
Sarah liked her teacher, but felt they weren't getting the progress she wanted. She talked to the office team and took a lesson with a new teacher, BUT changed her mind after a the lesson and wanted to keep the original teacher. Why? Well it turns out she hadn't really communicated to the previous teacher enough about her goals and once she did, they had a great plan for moving forward! Sometimes all that’s needed is to communicate more!
There have been dozens of times when families move toward switching, but instead open the lines of communication with their teacher to express what they need in their music lessons. More often than not, things actually get better, and they end up both keeping their current teacher and enjoying lessons much more!
