HOMESCHOOL UKULELE LESSONS
Extraordinary ukulele lessons for homeschoolers – in our studio or your Main Line home!
"Our teacher has been WONDERFUL. He is punctual, professional, charming, knowledgeable, great with children, and has a terrific sense of humor. We love him. We are also delighted with the teaching methods he employs. The children are enjoying the process of learning to play the ukulele and look forward to their lessons. They particularly enjoy the improvising! How brilliant! I feel like I struck gold on the first try. Meridee Winters School of Music 'rocks'! Many thanks!" – N.K., Wynnewood
At the Meridee Winters School of Music, we offer extraordinary ukulele lessons designed just for YOU! We provide studio and in-home convenience, the highest quality instruction, and the best-trained teachers who will tailor every lesson to your child's unique needs, personality, and learning style. You also get three unique performance opportunities each year: our popular Year End Shows, the quirky Halloween Show, and the one-and-only prestigious Songwriters Showcase.
Our Main Line in-home and studio ukulele lessons will have your homeschooler playing real songs from the very first lesson — creating a genuinely rewarding experience that students actually look forward to every week! Using an exclusive, modern curriculum created and developed by Meridee (a school teacher and composer), students progress at their own pace — a perfect fit for the homeschool philosophy.
Since 1990, this method has helped thousands of Main Line students learn — and learn to love — music. We are the only school in your area with its own published curriculum, in-depth teacher training, background checks, and customized activities for any learning style. Be sure to ask us about our custom-tailored programs for Autism, Gifted Students, and other special learners. Unlike most music lessons, which are often just a franchise or referral service, we are a real school, directed by Meridee Winters. Meridee holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education along with post-graduate studies in music and psychology.
Beginning ukulele lessons
Beginning ukulele lessons are all about sparking joy and building confidence. The ukulele's nylon strings and compact size make it one of the most approachable instruments for young beginners — students can form chords comfortably and start sounding great almost immediately. Our talented ukulele teachers introduce the fundamentals in a playful, encouraging way, weaving in songs students know and love alongside technique-building games and activities.
Beginning ukulele students — depending on their progress — have the opportunity to perform in the Year End Concerts or the quirky, fun Annual Halloween Show, both held at convenient Main Line locations.
Intermediate ukulele lessons
Intermediate ukulele students dive deeper into the styles and sounds that excite them — whether that's pop, folk, Hawaiian, indie, or even fingerpicking arrangements of classical pieces. You'll continue to develop technique and music theory while performing music you love, and you'll be coached to put your own creative spin on the songs you learn and start writing your own.
Intermediate ukulele students — depending on practice and progress — have opportunities to perform in the Year End Shows, the prestigious Songwriters Showcase, or the Annual Halloween Show, all held at convenient Main Line locations.
Advanced ukulele lessons
Advanced ukulele students explore a particular style, technique, or musical period of their choosing — from intricate solo fingerstyle arrangements to advanced chord melody and composition. They enjoy rich performance opportunities including the Year End Recital and Songwriters Showcase. Our teaching team brings professional experience across a wide range of musical styles to expertly guide advanced students through their musical journey. Adults interested in ukulele lessons? Why ukulele lessons are perfect for homeschool families
The ukulele is one of the very best instruments for homeschool students — and here's why homeschool families across the Main Line keep choosing it:
It's the most beginner-friendly instrument there is. The ukulele has just four soft nylon strings, a small neck perfectly sized for younger hands, and simple chord shapes that students can master in their first few lessons. Unlike instruments that require months of frustrating fundamentals before making enjoyable sounds, ukulele students are playing real songs almost immediately — keeping motivation and momentum high.
It's genuinely fun and immediately rewarding. The ukulele's bright, cheerful tone is inherently uplifting, which makes practicing feel less like work and more like play. This is a huge advantage for homeschool parents who want music to be a joyful part of the school day rather than a reluctant chore.
It builds a complete musical foundation. Don't let its reputation for simplicity fool you — the ukulele teaches melody, harmony, rhythm, ear training, and music theory all at once. Homeschool students who study ukulele develop skills that transfer beautifully to guitar, bass, and other string instruments. Many ukulele students at MW go on to pick up a second instrument with remarkable ease.
It's ideal for all learning styles. The ukulele's hands-on, pattern-based learning is exceptionally well-suited to students with diverse needs, including those with ADHD, Dyspraxia, gifted learners, and Autism. Research has consistently shown that musical study improves spatial reasoning, reading comprehension, and mathematical thinking. Check out our Music Bridges program for more information, or call the office at 610-649-2782.
It's portable and practical. For homeschool families who are always on the go, the ukulele's compact size is a genuine advantage — it travels easily and can be played anywhere, making practice flexible and convenient.

The games serve as tools to teach skills and creative outlets, as well as rewards for good practicing, good behavior, or good focus during the lesson. There's always something fun to find in the bag, and ukulele students especially love it — the whole vibe of the instrument lends itself to playful learning." – MW Ukulele Teacher
